ZEUS super heavy (1)

As mentioned, the ZEUS is my newest project, and represents a super heavy (similar to the Baneblade) for my Dei Greci Imperial Guard.
I call it actually a "battle fortress", as it is not only huge and has a lot of weapons, but it also transports some infantry and maybe even a vehicle.
So here's my first planning scetch for the ZEUS:

As you can see, the front will host the two engines, seperated by a Demolisher gun. Behind the engines will be two turrets with Vanquisher armament.

As coaxials for the Vanquishers, it will have tow autocannons for which I scratch built the barrels.

Here's a first try at a fast attack vehicle (project name Buggy), which may be transported in the ZEUS.

Here is the base plate (this time 5mm plasticard) with the side walls (normal 1mm pc).

The first version of the Demolisher gun (this is actually a leftover of the Tisiphone project).

Building the interior
Since this will be a rather big vehicle, and it will have some openings, I want to build a good interior for it. The plan is to have the upper part of the hull removable, so the interior can be looked at completely.
For the Zeus I'm taking a big dose of Captain Nemo and its Nautilus as well as a rather large chunk of Steampunk to create the interior.

This means many rounded support beams, pipes and rivets.

This is the operators station for the left engine.

Since I won't be able to get to all the parts later on, I'm immediately painting it. The main paint scheme is black with lots of brass and gold.

Here you can see a size comparison with a standard Chimera.

Here are now the pieces for the right engine operators station.

together with the scetch.

:-) Nice, huh?

This now is the turret basket for the planned vanquisher turret. It is built out of the bottom of a pills bottle.

With lots of moskito netting I've built the elemts for the gallery, which will go around the loading bay of the ZEUS.

Here you can see the side "door", which will be the connection to the track section, in which the infantry will be hosted (that's going to be a rough ride for them), as well as the sponson weapons station.

The Demolisher Gun

Here's now the reworked Demolisher gun. For its barrel I used Ultramars barrel rifling tip (http://ultrawerke.blogspot.com/2007/09/scratchbuilding-tip-barrel-rifling.html) and I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

Here you can see the gun mount as well as the gunners station for the Demolisher.

And all incorporated between the two engines.

Since the Demolisher has big ammo, I decided to also build a little "ammo rail" with which to transport the ammo up to the gun :)

:-D
Cool. isn't it?
That's all for now.

I'm back :)

Finally I am able to get back to meodelling and start new projects.
It has been a while, and I now wear glasses :)

Ok, so the new project is called "ZEUS" and will be a super heavy for the Dei Greci.
I have allready posted some info on the WIP site:
http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?showtopic=12070

The idea is to have a vehicle that carries a large array of weapons, as well as a troop of infantry, and maybe a fast attack vehicle (or an Orgryn troop?).
In the Hull it will sport a centrally mounted Demolisher, while the engines are to the left an right. Behind the Demolisher/Engines it will carry two Vanquisher turrets.
In the sponsons there will be a Lascanon/Flamer combi, as well as it will host the infatry there - a rough ride.
Then the actual huge monster turret will have the main armament - not sure if it will be Volcano cannon (but that would probably need another engine itself), Plasma Blastgun, or a "normal" Baneblade gun.

For images (before I make a proper posting here) you can check the Photobucket album:

Real Live :(

Hello, hello,
unfortunately Real Live(TM) has me in its fangs and I have a hard time finding time to work on my models.
I did work on the Recovery Vehicle a bit more, and I should have some images...somewhere.
Oh well.
I hope to have some updates for you soon.
Thanks for the patience.

The Aktros weapons platform

To accomondate the planned vehicles for the 8th Armored, I want to design a "one-fits-all" weapons platform. This will be the base for the

  • Main Battle Tank
  • Tank Destroyer (Jagdpanzer)
  • Recovery vehicle (Bergepanzer)

and maybe some extras like a Bridge vehicle, an Air Defense Vehicle, and an Artillery.
So here are the first images of the Aktros:

Here is the base hull, that I will use for all Aktros. As you can see it is a bit longer than a Leman Russ, but about the same width.

The engine deck for the MBT

The MBT deck with the openings for the turret, driver and bow gunner.

This is the superstructure for the Jagd-Aktros ind comparison to the MBT.

The Jagd-Aktros will be armed with a heavy Bolter and a Vanquisher gun.

This is a quick "blue tack" mount of the gun.

This is now the recovery vehicle, the Berge-Aktros.

It will have a crane, two spades (front and rear), a large toolbox, and some other stuff.

This is the base beam to which the crane will be mounted.
Here are the three superstructures in comparison.

More Dei Greci for 2008

Well, now that I have most of my small airmobile vehicles and the Thantalos Air Assault Carrier designed and (at least once) built, I have to look a bit into my future plans for the Dei Greci.
My idea is to have a Imperial Guards army that consists of 3 pillars:
  • The XIX Guards Regiment - a "standard" IG regiment, with the doctrines:
    - Iron Discipline
    - Sharp Shooters*
    - Xeno Specialist* - Ork
    - Plated Armor*
    - Guards*
*I'm not sure if these are the correct names, as I translated them from the German version
  • 7th Airmobile Regiment - these are the main Dei Greci users.
For these I don't have the doctrines yet, as I will need some tailor made doctrines. But it will use the following unit org:
    -HQ with Atropos & Kommisar
    2x LasCan with Ponos
    2x heavy bolter with Ponos
-Standard with "normal" airmobile troops" plus a possible HW-squad with 3 Mortars
    -Elites with
    3x Kratos Assault Gun
    -Fast Attack with
    1x Alecto
    3x Orthos AA
    -Heavy Support with either
    3x Tisiphone PLUS 1x Kairos
    or 3x Hephaistos
  • The third pillar will be the 8th Armored Battlegroup, which will mostly use the standards Armored Battlegroup rules.

So, the next itmes I'm going to work on, are the vehicles for the 8th Armor.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all of you!
I hope you had a good start and I wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous 2008.
