The Dreamer

Hey, hey,
guess who's back :)

I have neglected this blog for a loooong time - usually simply posting updates of my projects on Facebook - (4) Facebook  or (3) Facebook - but to be honest, posts in Facebook are just not as detailed as I can do them here.

I HOPE I will do more posts here in the future, but (as usual) no promises.

At the end of September I started a new project, called The Dreamer.
It features one of two female figures in Yoga meditation poses that I designed in ZBrush and printed on my Anycubic Photon Mono.

The original idea I had was of the meditating figure in front of a Shinto temple gate, with a "spacy" background visible in the gate.

After some expreimenting I refrained from the gate idea and tried some other variations

In the end I selected the "Stargate" version as my favourite.

I also decided to do a space background with LED lights and started to build the box for it.

Next was the LED light section itself

With this build finished I began to paint the space background.

I simply used a lot of deluted paint and some wet-in-wet pushing and shoving.

I'm quite happy with the result.

At this point it looked like an easy and quick project and I began painting the stargate section

Somehow this didn't look right to me. After a lot of pondering and chatting with fellow hobbyists I began to build a box for the diorama.

But just a naked box wasn't that impressive, was it?

So I added quite a lot of details to the outside of the box.

Then again, this would just be the outside - and the main focus should actually be on the INSIDE.
So next up were two curved surfaces on the inside of the doors.

For the central, top section I had the idea to mount a plaque with the title
"I am the dreamer - creator of stars, destroyer of worlds"
Which I quickly designed in ZBrush and printed

But first I began to paint the outside of the box

Looks like a proper powerful, magical box :)

At that time I refrained form the plaque and rather started an image of the dreamer for the central section

While this looked OK, it was too busy and not quite what I had in mind.
So I started again - same motiv.

This version was a better fit to the theme and the box.

On to the next image!
In correlation to the title, this was to be the creation of a star.

Nice, but not what I really wanted.

And the second try

There we go!

And after the creation of a star, I needed the destruction of a world.

This time it worked at the first attempt :)

With the box and background finished I began the dreamer figure itself.

First setting the light situation with an airbrush

The intention I had here was to use a Grisaille technique ( Grisaille - Wikipedia ), using thin layers of deluted color over greyscale.
And the mythical dreamer was to have a lot of glowing tatoos - which I initially painted in white.

However when adding color and structure I realized the way I planned the painting process wouldn't work (at least for me).

And so I started anew - it's the project of second tries, isn't it?

As mentioned previously I wanted ther to have glowing tatoos, So I tried it with an orange glow and yellow lines.

After a few days of painting she was finally done!

Time to put her in the diorama!

I'm quite pleased!

This was a fun project for me, rather quick (just 1 month) and very different from the stuff I did so far.
I hope you like it too.

Cheers
