Boz o' da Dakka! (Ork Attack 4)

Hello guys,
as mentioned in one of my previous posts, I did participate in Dakka's "Deathwatch Killteam competition".
Finally the competition and voting is up:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/346008.page
Swing by and check out those stunning entries. It is anonymus, but maybe you can guess which one is mine :)
As soon as the voting is over I will post all the WIP and detail images.

Also I'd like to point you to the Sons of Saguinus, where Atreides scratchbuild/converted a very nice Vendetta inspired by my Charon:
http://sanguinesons.blogspot.com/2011/02/vendetta-conversionscratchbuild-5.html
I really love the result!

Back to the Ork Attack then.
@Darkwing: Yes, that's really the idea of the scene (and the title "Boz o' da Dakka" - Leader of the Attack).
While everyone looks at the huge boss, and maybe at the 3 charging Orks, the little Ninja sneaks up on the enemy and attacks them.

@Malevengion: Yes, that was the idea with the multi-colored plates. Since he's leading the Waaargh on Dencara 5, with many Orks from various clans joining (for fight and fun), he also carries the ornaments and colors of the various clans.

I did tone the colored plates down a bit more and started with the Dark Angel.

I'm quite pleased with the result.

Note the dull red eyes, they are no longer glowing and shining.

And everyone staged on the diorama:

There's still some detailing, weathering and clean-up to do, but most of the work is done :)

I hope you like it.
Cheers

Ork Attack (3)

Well, progress over the last view days was (in my opinion) relatively slow, but now I realized that I have about 25 images to post today....guess I DID get something done after all :)

I painted the little Grot Ninja, and since he ended up relatively featureless and dull (well, black) I decided to give him a glowing powersword.

@Darkwing - I know this isn't really sneaky and Ninja-Like, but on the other hand, who'd be afraid of such a little Ninja, that only reaches about thigh high :)

With the powersword and a little glow he looks a bit more catchy.

And on the base it really fits nicely.

In a later image you can see that I even added a little glow to the stones.

Then it was time to begin with the boss.
As mentioned I wasn't sure if I'd go for the camo pattern or something else.
I decided to give him a relatively "traditional" paintjob, with lots of rust and some colored panels. For the base color I used Lemmingspawns recepie with a mix of Scorched Brown and Dark Skin with a little touch to red.

Over this I added a very, very thin wash of Tin Bizz (about 10:1 water:color)

Which at first looks quite shiny,

but another wash of Devlan Mud fixes things nicely.

Then I began to color some panels, using the traditional red, yellow, and blue.

Then some weathering using a piece of foam and a very dark grey and another wash of Devlan Mud.

While the Boss' paitn dried, I started with the Gretchin drummer.

He really looks cool on top of the Boss' shoulder.

Now I still have to do the two standards and the Marine.

I find it kind of ironic to have a green-skin fight against a green-armour, so I will paint the Marine as Dark Angel.
In the background you can see the banner and the standard at its current state.

I hope you like it :)

Ork Attack (2)

Hey guys,
I worked some more on the 3 Stooges...aehm...I mean the 3 charging Orks.

I'm pretty pleased with the skin again.

The Vallejo Game Color really has a smooth finish,

and the glazing and blending is relatively easy.

So here they are on the base.

Detail shots:

To complete the diorama I created a little sign.

:)

Then I started with the Ninja.

I'm thinking about making his sword a glowing like an energy weapon, but I'm not sure yet.

Ork Attack

Sorry for the lack of updates, but the operation strained me more than I thought, and I decided to participate in the Dakka painting competition ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/335869.page ) "Deathwatch Killteam" - for which I'm not allowed to post any images or WIP till the contest is over. But I did make a lot of images, and once it is through, I will post them all or you.
Actually it was quite some fun and I tried some new things :)

But now I'm back in the painting saddle, and felt it was time to continue with the diorama. The ATHENA will have to wait a bit more, as I don't think I can really build yet. But once I feel fit for it, the ATHENA will be back on the desk - and the very first thing to add to the ATHENA will be the liaison officer for Lord Gordons 20th Praetorians.
When I looked at the Defense of Xantinum dio and placed all minis on it, I realized it is too crowded and lacks focus. So I will have to re-arrange some items.
The Spida Walker will remain on the dio and he will be the attackers focus piece.

I decided to remove the Waaagh Boss and put him in a seperate display piece.
Here you can see the initial arrangement.
You can see a group of Orks and the Boss charging down some ancient steps. For this I cut some styrofoam and mounted it on an old DVD case.

Then I covered the styrofoam and the case with a instant plaster.

Once the plaster cured I started to scribe some runes and symbols into the plaster - looks a bit like an ancient mosaic.
Then I promed it in black, so all the joiting will be visible.

Then I drybrushed everything with Kaki, some washes with devlan mud, another drybrush with Kaki and a very light one with Bleached Bone gave me a nice rocky/stony look.
The mosaic pieces I painted with Tin Bizz.

Which I washed with Badab Black and drybrushed with Shinign Gold.

The outer side also received several drybushes in various brwons and blacks.

I'm quite pleased with the result so far.

Another staging shot with the actors.

And then the 3 Orks received thier camo suits.

And first details.

I'm quite pleased with the progress I was able to make, and I really look forward to continue it.
I'm still a bit unsure on how I will paint the Boss.
Should I camouflage his armor like I did with the Spida Walker, or should I do some other color? Still a bit undecided.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers
