Orkalypse Now (12)

Hi all,
since the last update I got quite some painting done :)
BTW, I posted an image on my facebook page, and Larry Correa, the author of Monster Hunter International, who's logo I used for the shoulder pad, dropped a:

Hehe :)

Here you can see the laser beam color changed again, and it's now a very bright green.

I added a lot of details to the troopers.

Some shading, some highlighting.

The lenses and flashlights got some attention.

and the faces got the first details.

Here's Scarface with the Grenade Launcher

Major Reismann, One-Eye, and Red Crow blasting away :)

And then it was time to work on the light effects for the base.

Looks good :)

Some face details...

Captain Rambo

Corporal One-Eye

And here is the central bolter group blasting away.
They still need some highlights and reflections on the visors, some smoothening of the light effects.

Well, I hope you like todays update and the progress I made.
I thank you very much for taking your time reading and I hope you enjoyed todays update.
I really look forward to your comments, suggestions, and feedback.

Orkalypse Now (11)

Hello, hello,
I hope you had a good weekend and are desperately looking forward to an update from me :)

Hehe, I certainly was able to get some painting done - not as much as I wished, but worth an update nevertheless.
I completed the gaiters with Snakebite Leather.

Then I used a very dark grey as base for all the black parts. By not using Chaos Black I can still add some shadows to the black areas easily.

For the visors I used a blue-ish version of the dark grey (hopefully) giving the impression of a semi-transparent blue visor.

Kommando Khaki was used for the various personal items.

Battlegrey for the battery packs.

And various little details that I didn't document.

They come together quite good.

But still a long way to go.

More details, like the lenses and flashlights.

One of the last steps are the shoulder pads with the green smiley - MHI logo from Larry Correia's "Monster Hunter International" series.

Then it was time to look into the cinematic effects.
Flames and Muzzle Flashes!

Here's a mid process shot of the flamer :)

While some of the paint dried I positioned the HERCULES on the base, to see how his camo pattern will work.

Wow! I really like it!

I'm still not really sure how I will do the laser beams, but I decided to give green a try...

First position shot!

The flames and muzzle flashes still need one more color (white : Sunburst Yellow mix) for the extreme highlights.

With the unfinished laser beams...

And the business end :D

All in all I like how it progresses, even without any OSL effects so far.
I hope you like it too :)
Thanks for your time reading through this update and I hope you enjoyed the update.
I look forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Orkalypse Now (10)

Leaving the actual laser beams to the side, I started painting the troopers.

For the Dencara "Tiger Flash Pattern" I started with the uniform base color of Terracotta.

Then the Camouflage Stripes with Bronzed Flesh.

These stripes were then filled with another stripe of Scorched Brown.

And to complete the pattern on the cloth I added the "camouglage dots" in Dwarfen Flesh.

This completes the basic pattern for the cloth part.
Mounted back on the diorama base, one can already see the camouflage value...

I hope they won't be blending in too much in the end...
We'll see :)
Thanks for taking your time reading adn I hope you enjoyed todays small update.
I look forward to your feedback, comments and suggestions.
Cheers

Orkalypse Now (9)

Hi guys,
thanks for your feedback and suggestions - lots of color-theories on the lasers :)

Unfortunately I couldn't get much done over the last few days, as real live (TM) kept me quite busy.
Nevertheless I began to experiment with the lasers. So I selected these 5 possible laser colors:
Red, blue, green, purple, and yellow and painted the first beams.

It was a quick and dirty job (being half drunken too).

And there were some lessons learned:
  1. Don't PUI (paint under influence)
  2. the light bubbles at the root of the beam are too big
  3. The colors actually don't really matter, as the white will flush most of it

So with lesson 2 in mind I created new beams, with a smaller root bubble.
Quite a difference already.

But then I decided to try another model, with a bit of a burst at the root.
This used pretty much the same technique as the Bolter flashes, just on a smaller scale and on a longer rod.

To see how this works out I painted one of each version and both in the red colors.

Actually not bad, and I think I will go with the "burst" version and a red beam. But I think I will leave the light transitional color mix of white and red (actually creating a pale pink) and go straight from red to white.
What do you think?
Thanks for your suggestions and feedback - I look forward to it.
Cheers
Klaus
